Do you keep up with what’s “trendy” or do you prefer to keep your own style despite what’s new in the industry? I found this article particularly good, but let me give some advice here. YOUR home is YOUR home. If you like it, keep it! If you want to change it, CHANGE it. I am leery to allow trends to dictate what I love. For instance, while the advice and ideas here are pretty well thought out, I have some opinions (you KNOW that I do)! Remember though, this is just me, if you love it….DO IT!
- First of all, designers SHOULD move away from all white. For Pete’s sake, people have pets, and some of us (YES, me) are really kind of a klutz. It’s NOT wise to decorate my home in white, but if you love it….GET AFTER IT!
- Paneling…..Oh, OH, OH, late 1980s and early 90’s flashbacks!!!!!! I know it adds warmth and all that, but to me it still feels… dated. Not a huge fan.
- Earth colors and minimalism – THIS I can get down with. I like warm colors and combinations! Minimal is better than cluttered. Something about my mood being attached to my living space. A cluttered space seriously distracts me from the tasks at hand.
- Statement lighting?! YES PLEASE. We have an industrial chandelier in the store that I LOVE LOVE LOVE. I know you can put those “Edison” bulbs in there, but they are kinda hard on the eyes, so I would recommend an incandescent bulb, or a SOFT LED, depending on your preference!
- I am usually an “everything has to match” person, but I think that’s more my OCD than anything, so this other trend for 2026, I MIGHT try. Modern nostalgia. Let’s take some antique tables, armoires, books, and artwork with modern sofas, beds, and lighting as they suggest in the article. I think I might be able to make that work, but – again – OCD. I am not sure how this is going to work out, but we’ll give it a shot and post some pictures after I find the right pieces!
